Service Description

This two-day écorché sculpture workshop explores the human skull as the foundation of portrait sculpture, helping you develop both your anatomical understanding and your observation skills. On Saturday, we will focus on sculpting the human skull, learning the basic anatomy, proportions, and key bony landmarks that define the structure of the head. Through demonstrations and guided practice, you will begin to understand how the skull is constructed in three dimensions and how it shapes the visible features of the face. We will also work on observation skills throughout the day. You will learn how to compare angles, measure distances, and check proportions accurately. Calipers will be introduced as a tool to train your eye, with the aim of gradually becoming less dependent on them and learning to trust your own visual judgement. On Sunday, we will adapt what you have learned to a live model, applying your understanding of the skull to the features of the face. The final outcome of the weekend will be an écorché study that combines a half-skull anatomical study with a half portrait. All levels are welcome. The class is kept small, with a maximum of 7 students, allowing for plenty of one-to-one guidance throughout the workshop.
